Reveries
A masked ball dressed up as an epiphany,
wisdom has a place for you, but not today,
today is ice and snow, ephemeral, transient,
fragile evanescence as crystal memories,
perspectives shatter inner peace, scatter love.
Disregarded, we purchase a lavish sandcastle
on which we build our life, desperate to establish
deep foundations, a firm footing for existence,
a place to call our home amongst the clouds
and shadows. To have a family, perhaps, a glass eye,
unnerved, unethical, a poetic dream glimpsed,
stripped naked, a consideration of love, stripped bare,
you wonder, was any of it real in the end?
Were all epiphanies just masks, concealed?
